Kicking, screaming, scratching, bellowing out karaoke-Japan’s women wrestlers fight dirty and they will do anything to be famous.

Women’s pro-wrestling reached Japan 40 years ago. Originally it followed the American pattern with plenty of drama and excitement for the spectators and a rigged ending.

But now women’s pro-wrestling has been through a sea of change. It still has its showbiz side. But it has another aspect too. It has become a real sport-and a dangerous, violent one. Occasional deaths ensure that there are far fewer applicants than in the past.
